You might think I got the title of this blog post mixed up. I didn’t. It’s how I think – I’m a want-a-be, but untalented musician. I enjoy music; but I don’t make music. One of the ways that I enjoy music is by attending concerts. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to attended many concerts. There are 40 performers on the list I started last night (I’m still working on my list). Is this considered an extreme or is it just normal? I’m not sure; but I’m grateful that I’ve been able to attend so many concerts.
The very first bands I saw in concert were The Grassroots and Iron Butterfly. I wasn’t really old enough to attend rock concerts at the time; but I went anyway. I’ll confess that I spent the night with a friend and her dad gave us money for the tickets. I’m sure he really didn’t know what we were attending. Several years later, I saw Alice Cooper. I had another friend who had fight with her boyfriend and invited me to go instead of him. It was a time of wild concerts and I was way out of my element. I can still remember my amazement at the loud vibration of the music throughout our local coliseum. I also was lucky enough to see Elvis in concerts. I remember that you had to mail in a cashier check to purchase the tickets and (in my memory at least) you didn’t get to choose your seats. And – of course, I did act as crazy as all the other females at an Elvis concert (No, I didn’t throw anything at the stage).

Yes! — that concert was in 1974 and I was a teenager. I know I’m giving away my age; but it was a big moment for me.
The first concert my hubby and I saw together was Grand Funk Railroad. (We were dating at the time.) Our little town hadn’t seen anything like the amazing light show used during that concert. We had only been dating for couple of months; so he really didn’t know about my addiction to music. The Elvis concert was the next concert my hubby and I attended together. I guess it was true love because my concert behavior didn’t scare him away.
Through the years, I was able to attend many concerts in my hometown. Some of my favorites include Chicago, Kenny Rogers, Neil McCoy, Randy Travis, Reba, T.G. Shepard, The Judd’s, The Monkees, Travis Tritt, and Trisha Yearwood. Attending many of these concerts was only possible because of the Tri-State Fair. For many years, our Tri-State Fair would bring in well-known musicians to perform concerts during fair week. The ticket prices were more affordable even if the venue wasn’t as good. During our travels, I managed to see a few concerts also. These include: The Commodores, John Conlee, Mark Chestnut, Neil McCoy, The Grand old Opry (Trace Adkins, Dierks Bentley), and Tom Jones.
About 4 years ago, I realized that I hadn’t been to a concert in several years. This was partly because not as many musicians came to our city any more and partly because we just got busy with life. I made a special effort to find concerts to attend. Since then, I’ve seen the following performers: Alan Jackson, Darius Rucker, Diana Ross, Dierks Bentley, Kenny Chesney & Tim McGraw, Kenny Rogers, Neil McCoy, The Oak Ridge Boys, Randy Travis, Reba, Trace Adkins, The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Vince Gil, and ZZ Top. Attending most of these required travel of up to 6 hours since only four of these were performed locally. Luckily, my husband is usually willing to tag along on a concert trip (He’s not that interested in music, but he does like to travel.) My daughter is usually willing to fill in when he can’t or won’t attend with me. Recently, I attended a Reba concert with my son and daughter. 
The venue wasn’t the best; but we agreed her concert was one of the best we ever attended.
